The braes o' the Carse are bonnie braes Awa up be Pitroddie;
And Mirren Saunders a' her days
Bade there a witlin body.
Her fowthrie was the licht and air;
Her hame an auld clay-biggin:
Scartins were aye her daily fare, And tattrels were her triggin.
Whether in simmer or in snaw, In stour strength or in scanted, She had a lauchin face for a' And was richt weel-contented.
She's liggan in Kilspindie yaird
No far outby Pitroddie;
And on her stane the honest word-
"Here bides a happy body."
